AAR was initiated by Johanna Bruckner in 2011.
Johanna Bruckner is an artist and a cultural researcher. She was born in Vienna in 1984 and lives between Stockholm, Hamburg and Berlin. Bruckner is a stipendiant of the IFK International Research Center for Cultural Studies, financed by the Austrian Ministry for Research and Science and was awarded by the Sophie-Fohn Stipend 2012.
Bruckner studied Cultural Studies, Visual Cultures, Social - and Cultural Anthropology and Fine Arts in Vienna, Utrecht, Berlin and Hamburg, and recently graduated from the University of Vienna / Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She has moreover been a researcher in the post-graduate „Professional Artitic Development Program“ at the Royal Institute of Arts, Stockholm. Her practice investigates the curatorial space and the performativity of setting and structure. Bruckner examines the authorship of utterance in knowledge production through practical and theoretical inquiries. Recent publication: "Affirmative Institutional Critique" (Ed. by Schirin Kretschmann, et al., Bauhaus University Weimar, 2012).
She received a grant from the University of Vienna for researching on her final thesis at the University of Fine Arts, Berlin (2009) and the University of Utrecht; and has been artist in residence in New York City, Flux Factory.
